Susanne Martin Herz, MD, PhD

Dr. Susanne Martin Herz is Professor and Transbay Medical Director of the Division of Developmental Medicine in the UCSF Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Martin Herz's research investigates early childhood development and neurodevelopmental assessment across contexts, including in low-income environments and resource-limited communities globally and domestically. In both her clinical and research efforts, Dr. Martin Herz works to improve outcomes for newborns who experienced difficulties that put them at risk for developmental delay or disorder.  Dr.

Cinthya Arellano-Melchor

Cinthya is a Clinical Research Coordinator in the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF. She obtained her degrees in Biology and Ethnic Studies from Saint Mary’s College of California in 2021. She plans to pursue a career in Medicine as a physician working towards making medical care more accessible and equitable for all. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, trying new food spots around the bay area and watching movies with her family and friends.

Lindsay Easter, BS

Clinical Research Coordinator

Lindsay is a Clinical Research Coordinator in the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF. After graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in biology, she researched neurodegenerative diseases using stem cells before joining the team at UCSF. She lives in the city and loves visiting the library to check out books and movies. She also enjoys relaxing in Golden Gate Park after having a big picnic. She is thrilled to be working on the GSED Study alongside the rest of the team and the participants!

Nicole Fischbein

Clinical Research Coordinator
Pediatrics

Nicole is a Clinical Research Coordinator in the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF. She graduated from Columbia University and is very interested in improving child and adolescent mental health, with a particular curiosity as to how evidence-based treatments can be employed in schools and other community settings to reduce mental health disparities among elementary to college-aged students. In her spare time, Nicole volunteers with the Felton Institute and San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory and loves trail running in San Francisco parks.

Valerie Flaherman, MD, MPH

Epidemiologist & Clinical Investigator

Dr. Valerie Flaherman is Professor of Pediatrics and Epidemiology and Biostatistics and is Core Faculty at UCSF’s Phillip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Research. Dr. Flaherman’s research focuses on preventive interventions in early infancy in the U.S. and internationally. She is a pediatrician and attending at UCSF’s Newborn Nursery and at Pediatric Primary Care at Mt. Zion.

Katie is a Psychometrist at UCSF with a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science from UC Davis. Her interests revolve around anything that makes us who we are, including cognitive development and how childhood experiences impact the mind. She plans to pursue a PhD in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience and to continue working with little humans. Outside of work, she enjoys going on weekend adventures, crocheting, and fostering dogs and cats.
